L’Ordine degli Architetti PPC della provincia di Mantova ed il Polo Territoriale di Mantova – Politecnico di Milano sono lieti di ospitare gli architetti João Luís Carrilho da Graça e Francisco Mangado presso la Sala di Manto a Palazzo Ducale a Mantova. L’incontro avrà luogo GIOVEDI’ 18 MAGGIO dalle ore 18,00 ma è consigliato l’ingresso alle ore 17,30 data la notevole affluenza prevista.
Le conferenze sono accreditate dal CNAPPC con 2 CFP. João Luís Carrilho da Graça, architect, graduated from Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa in 1977, the year he initiated his professional practice.
His body of work has been recognized with several awards, including: medal from L’Academie d’Architecture, France, in 2012, the the title of “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” by the French Republic in 2010, the “Prémio Pessoa” in 2008, the “Order of Merit” by the Portuguese Republic in 1999 and the “AICA Award” by the International Association of Art Critics in 1992.
Was distinguished with the “AIT award 2012 – transportation” for the Pedestrian Bridge over the Carpinteira Stream, with the “Frate-Sole” International Prize of Sacred Architecture for the Santo Antonio’s Church in Portalegre in 2012, with the “Piranesi Prix de Rome” prize in 2010 for the Musealization of the “Praça Nova” Archeological Site at “Castelo de São Jorge”, with the “Valmor” Prize in 2008 for the School of Music – Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, with the “FAD” Prize in 1999 and the “Valmor” Prize in 1998 for the Knowledge of the Seas Pavilion at Lisbon Expo ’98, with the “Secil” Prize in 1994 for the Higher School of Social Communication (Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa).
Was selected or nominated for the “European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies Van der Rohe Award”, in 2013 for the Residences at L’and Vineyards Resort, Montemor-o-Novo, in 2011 for the Carpinteira Pedestrian Bridge, Covilhã, and the Musealization of the “Praça Nova” Archeological Site at “Castelo de São Jorge”, Lisbon, in 2009 for the Lisbon School of Music – Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon and the Theatre and Auditorium of Poitiers, in 1996 for the “Santa Maria de Flor da Rosa” historical monastery hostel, in 1994 for the Institute for Communication – Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, in 1992 for the Campo Maior Municipal Swimming Pool, and in 1990 for the Portalegre Regional Social Security Center. Participated in the official representation of portugal to 13th venice architecture biennale 2012 “lisbon ground” with Lisbon’s Cruise Terminal project and to 12th venice architecture biennale 2010 “no place like – 4 houses 4 films” with the Candeias’ House project. Lecturer at the School of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon between 1977 and 1992. Professor at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa from 2001 to 2010 and at the Universidade de Évora since 2005, where was head of the Architecture Department until 2010. Visiting professor at Architecture School of the University of Navarra in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2014. Invited to lecture in seminars and conferences at several international universities and institutions. Responsible for the creation of the Ph.D Program in Architecture at the University of Évora. Headmaster of the Ph.D. Program in Architecture and in charge of the “laboratory I” and “laboratory II” courses at the University of Évora, from 2011 to 2013. In 2013 received an “honoris causa” doctorate degree by the School of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon.
Francisco Mangado (Navarra, 1957) graduated from the University of Navarra School of Architecture in 1982, and has taught there since. He has also been a Visiting Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, an Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor at the Yale School of Architecture, a Guest Lecturer at the EPF of Lausanne, a Baird and Gensler Visiting Professor at Cornell, and Visiting Professor at the Polytechnic di Milano.
Major built works of his include the Baluarte Auditorium and Congress Center in Pamplona, the Archaeology Museum in Vitoria, the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008, the Asturias Fine Arts Museum in Oviedo and the recently opened Congress Center of Palma de Mallorca. He is currently working on projects located in several
countries. This busy professional practice has brought him, among other honors, the Andrea Palladio Architecture Award, the FAD Award for Architecture, the CEOE Award, the Construmat Award for Architecture, the Fernando García Mercadal Award for Architecture, the Giancarlo Ius Gold Medal given by the UIA, the Copper in
Architecture Award, the RIBA EU Award, the Spanish National Award for Architecture in 2009 and the RIBA for International Excellence in 2016. In November 2016 the Akademie der Künste Berlin conceded Francisco Mangado the Berlin Art Prize – Architecture 2017 Award in recognition of his work.
He was named a RIBA International Fellow in 2011 and an AIA Honorary Member in 2013. In 2008 he founded the Fundación Arquitectura y Sociedad, which in 2015 was given a CSCAE Gold Medal. In July 2015 the Spain’s Governing Council for Biennials appointed him General Coordinator of Spanish Biennials. Under his coordination the Spain Pavilion in Venice was awarded with the Golden Lion of the Bienal in May 2016.
